Poor are not just deprived of basic resources . . .

They lack access to information that is vital to their lives and livelihoods, about health, about the structure and services of public institutions, and about their rights. They lack political visibility and voice in the institutions and power relations that shape their lives. They lack access to knowledge, education and skills development that could improve their livelihood. They often lack access to markets and institutions, both government and societal that could provide them with needed resources and services. They lack access to, and information about, income-earning opportunities.

Moreover, their ability to use information need to be improved using ICT, is primary issue to address – we call it “building blocks if ignited minds” for the effective use of ICT for its sustained results.

 
Initiatives taken by NEEDS
 

E-Village

NEEDS have already put in place 6 knowledge centers, called E-village, (having V-Sat connectivity, supported by ISRO) in 6 different blocks in Santhal Paragana region, in Jharkhand. These knowledge centers are mainly the ICT based kiosks and these kiosks are operated by the local communities. MIS & Informative Tools

We have developed several MIS Tools & Informative Tools for our knowledge centers as well as for our partner NGOs. Software like Hunger Monitoring Tool, Calorie Deficiency Checking Tool, Informative tools on Entitlement (Apni Baat),  MIS Tool on Safe Motherhood & Child Survival (SMCS) and Ultra Poor Initiatives has been developed by our ICT Team…

We have already established a Rural Technology Park (RTP) in Sarwan Block (Deoghar district, Jharkhand), in cooperation with Sir Dorabjee Tata Trust (SDTT). This RTP is functioning as a primary Block Hub for the region with information need assessment based research, development of ICT tools to popularize information centers and information demands, developing women empowerment tools, i.e., local governance issues, capacity building and skill enhancement issues, health needs, education and entertainment needs, livelihood issues of women, gender and women right issues etc, computer literacy for women...
