Sustainable Health Intervention of Marginalized

Support Organization: SIMAVI, Netharland

Brief of the Project: Second phase intervention is focused on the sustainability of the programme through convergence and community based advocacy, demand generation and cooperating with Govt. to improve on health service commitments.

Objective: Improved RH service access and practices by marginalized community through effective community action in 10 target panchayats of Deoghar district by 2009

Total Project Duration: 3 years

Number of Programme Participants Targeted: Pregnant and lactating mothers, children within age group 0-60months, newly married couple, members of 130 VHC, 30 TBAs, 250 youth and adolescent, ICDS workers, ANMs and MOICs of 2 blocks, catering to 155 villages

Achievements: Number of Programme participants served: 1090 pregnant, 5106 children within age group 0-60months, 518 lactating mothers, 116 newly married couples, 1950 VHC members, 30 TBAs, 330 youth and adolescent, 324 women opting for IUD insertion, ICDS workers, ANMs, MOICS and CS.

Apart from regular activities, HIV and RCH integration had been successfully done through Friday Outreach Mobile Testing and Counselling service. 121 volunteered for testing including 64 pregnant. 324 eligible women opted for IUD insertion. Effective linkage with health department resulted in more participation in govt. programme. This was possible due to JSACS collaboration with NEEDS

 

IUD Camps

Support Organization: PSI and local PHC/ district authorities of health department

Target: 600 eligible women

Achievements: 2000 eligible women of Deoghar and Dhanbad district in 2 months pilot intervention

 

Capacity Building of Sahiyya (Sahiyya Programme)

Support Organization: Dept.of Health and Family Welfare, GoJ

Brief of the Project: An initiative to reach to the “last house hold of the last village” with quality primary health care services. Sahiyya, the community volunteer is working as link person between community and health system. Project is to build capacity of Sahiyyas through training on modules developed by health department, GoJ under NRHM initiative.

Objective: To build capacity of the Sahiyyas on 4 modules on the themes of – Sahiyya programme, Child Care, Water-Sanitation-Nutrition and Safe Motherhood.

Total Project Duration: 12 months

Number of Programme Participants Targeted: 1646 Number of Programme participants served [1508 trained on 3rd Module and 255 trained on 4th Module]

Achievements: Sahiyyas got training on TB and pregnancy detection also and are helping people to get access to DOTS programme, pregnancy registration and service. Immunisation coverage and institutional delivery is increasing through their mobilization.1243 Sahiyyas got training on TB and on pregnancy detection.

 

Formation of Red Ribbon Clubs under NACP III in 2 Districts of Jharkhand

Support Organization: JSACS, GoJ

Brief of the Project: Creating HIV/AIDS awareness and promotion of safe behaviour practice among youth through formation Red Ribbon clubs in 12 colleges of Deoghar and Jamtara. Promotion of voluntary blood donation among youth is also aimed through the RRCs.

Objective: The objective of this is to complement the overall objective of NACP III  i.e.  to halt and reverse the HIV epidemic within 2012.

Total Project Duration: 4 months

Number of Programme Participants Targeted: 12 RRC was to form with average membership of 25 in each club

Achievements: 12 RRC in 12 colleges of district Deoghar and Jamtara is formed though the process was very challenging due to other engagements in colleges. Peer Educators among members are identified and trained on HIV-AIDS. Blood donation camps through RRC was also planned but could not be organized within reporting period.

 

Community Leadership and Volunteering Programme

Support Organization: VSO, India

Brief of the Project: NEEDS have become strategic partner of VSO/India and have initiated a youth volunteering program to impact on health MDG goal in Deoghar district. Under this program young people are selected based on certain criteria of their motivation level and engage them with the community to take leadership initiative within their own community through a micro planning process. These youths are trained for 20 days mostly in understanding community, creating shared vision, micro planning, and volunteering contents.

Objective:  Create a critical mass of young volunteers with leadership skills to contribute in MDG health goals.

Total Project Duration: Rolling program annual basis
